Curriculum Statement
Our teaching is based on the Programmes of Study of the National Curriculum. We teach four core subjects (R.E., Maths, Language and Science) and eight foundation subjects (Art, Music, History, Geography, Design Technology, I.C.T., Welsh, P.E.0. We also teach PHSE (Personal Health and Social Education). The basic skills of literacy and numeracy are taught right across the curriculum.
The teaching programmes are planned in a variety of ways and will amount to 21 hours in the infant department and 23.5 hours in the junior department.
There will be whole class teaching, group teaching and individual teaching and a variety of teaching styles will be used. Work will be planned in such a way that it ensures our pupils are receiving an education which shows progression and continuity. This will enable every child to fulfil his/her potential and feel success.
The curriculum will be broad, balanced, differentiated and relevant to the needs, aspirations and lives of unique individuals. Work completed by pupils will be marked and assessed and will provide further information for further planning. Children will sometimes assess their own work and other pupils’ work, which will help them to build on strengths and to improve their weaknesses.
Work for all pupils will be differentiated according to their needs. This may be in the form of teaching methods, group size, work set or outcomes.
We report to Parents twice per year at Parents’ Evenings and you will also receive a written report in July.
The transition from Home to Nursery, from Infant to Junior and from Year Seven to Archbishop McGrath is well planned and pupils have various opportunities to familiarise themselves with their new education environments and their teachers.
Each pupil at our school is unique and his/her development in all aspects of school life will be constantly infused and supported by the teachings and example of Christ.
