Cymraeg (Welsh) and the Curriculwm Cymraeg
Our pupils are taught to speak, listen and to read Welsh according to the guidelines of the National Curriculum. We encourage incidental Welsh during our school day and many signs are displayed in Welsh. Pupils are also taught to sing Welsh songs and hymns with hwyl.
Pupils are taught to be very proud of our Welsh culture and our heritage. They visit places of local interest e.g. St Fagan’s, Big Pit, Llancaiach Fawr, Cardiff Museum and they take an interest in our Welsh Government by visiting the Welsh Assembly Government in Cardiff (in Class 7).
On St David’s Day we celebrate our National Feast with a Mass which includes prayers, readings and hymns in Welsh and then in the afternoon we hold an Eisteddfod. Each class prepares an item through the medium of Welsh and Mrs Treharne and Miss Browne hold a Welsh Quiz. The day ends with the singing of the National Anthem – with pride.
Our school badge sports a Welsh dragon with the chi-rho to show that with Christ at our centre, we are very proud to be Welsh.
