Music is and integral part of our whole curriculum. All classes experience “National Curriculum Music” where pupils are taught to experiment with percussion instruments and use them to compose and perform and appraise. They are also encouraged to listen to the music of famous composers and to the music of other cultures. Mrs Alison Evans is our peripatetic Violin teacher and she gives lessons to some pupils in Classes 6 and 7. Mrs Barlow is able to teach recorder and Miss Browne can teach guitar. Living in the “Land of Song” gives us a head start in the field of singing. As you pass by our school, you may note that ‘the hills are alive with the Sound of Music’! Pupils have a weekly singing lesson and are prepared for our celebrations of Mass (which are always lively occasions), for Assemblies and sometimes for concerts which we perform for our parents and members of our community. We love to entertain! We have annual Christmas Concerts which proclaim the joy and excitement of the birth of Christ. Infants hold their own concert (which is always a delight) and the Juniors follow suit. You are warmly invited to both concerts and we warn you to bring a tissue. It is important that we immerse our pupils in our Welsh culture and heritage. So they are taught a wide variety of Welsh songs (including the National Anthem) and are given experience of ‘twmpath’ (Welsh Folk dancing). On St David’s Day we have our own Eisteddfod where all classes display their talents through the medium of Welsh. We encourage you to give your child a wide experience of music at home.
