Special Educational Needs (S.E.N.)
As people we all have differing needs and children are no different. As unique individuals we have to provide each child with learning opportunities which may be accessible. Some children may learn at a faster pace, some at a slower pace. Both sets of pupils have to be catered for. All pupils have special needs and we have a dedicated team of professionals who provide extra support when necessary.
Mrs Heatley is the Special Needs Co-ordinator. If teachers note any problems arising with a child, they will ask Mrs Heatley to find a solution. As parents you may be called in to offer your opinions. Mrs Chell, our Language Support Teacher is also part of this team and works closely with Mrs Heatley. Together with the class teacher they will develop an Individual Action Plan.
If a solution cannot be found then we have a list of support agencies who give us extra advice and help. Please do not be alarmed if we suggest these agents as it is vital to the ongoing support your child may need. Such agencies may include:
Ø The Access and Inclusion Service which incorporates visual and hearing impairment support, an Educational Psychologist who will assess for Specific Learning Difficulties or General Learning Difficulties. She will then provide us with a plan to help us to help your child. If these assessments are needed you will always be informed and invited to attend if you wish.
Ø The Child Health Service
Ø Child and Family Service – who can give whole family support.
Ø ‘On Track’ – which is a service provided in the Llynfi Valley for pupils with learning difficulties and behaviour problems. The team provides support for pupils in school and also for parents.
If you have a problem with your child at home, please be sure to tell us.
Pupils who fall into the ‘gifted’ category will also be assessed and given their own programme of work to meet their particular special needs.
