St Mary’s & St Patrick’s

Because we belong to a Catholic Family and the Parish Family of Our Lady and St Patrick’s, Maesteg, we love to celebrate our faith together.

It is the law of the land, that every school has an act of collective worship, every day, as part of its curriculum.  Most schools call this Assembly – we often call it “Rejoice” – because it is a time when we come together as a School Family, to Rejoice in our faith and to Rejoice in our talents.

On Mondays and Fridays Infants and Juniors have separate Rejoice times and one teacher leads the reflection and prayers.  On a Tuesday, the
Head Teacher or Deputy Head takes the lead, and on Thursday each class prepares the Assembly according to the Here I Am topic.  Pupils are encouraged to use their talents in drama, speaking and listening, reading, music, dance etc. during the delivery of a Bible Story or appropriate reflection.  During Assemblies pupils gather together and sing appropriate hymns, which are full of God’s life.  They listen to the Word of God, have time to reflect  and pray and then they take out the “message of the day” and try to live it.

On a Wednesday, classes hold their own prayer session where they light a candle, listen to Scripture and pray for the needs of the world, in their own very special way.  During May and October pupils are taught how to pray the rosary.  We ask our parents to pray with their children before bedtime.  You will find that your children will teach you.
