Sacramental Preparation

We work as partners with the Parish Community.  The sacraments are special gifts which Catholics receive at different times in their lives.  Baptism is the first sacrament and the most important.  Some parents request baptism for their children, and we can arrange to have a special celebration during school hours on a selected Friday.  Parents are instructed by a parish catechist beforehand and the children are instructed at school.  Our whole school family attends the very lively baptism ceremony with the child’s family and everyone celebrates and welcomes the child into God’s happy family.  Viewing a real baptism also helps our pupils to see our teaching come alive.
If you request baptism for your child, please contact Mrs Allan, our school secretary (732349) for further details.

In Year 3, Catholic pupils are invited to join our School/Parish sacramental programme for the sacraments of Reconciliation (confession) and First Holy Communion.  Al parents are invited to an introductory meeting where our R.E. Co-ordinator, Miss Browne, explains the requirements of the programme.  Reception of these sacraments is a commitment to the Catholic Church and not a one off occasion.  Parents have to be prepared to bring their
children to Sunday Mass each week, to follow a programme of work and to attend a series of meetings with Miss Browne and Mrs Rees (a parish Catechist).  The programme is easy to follow and the sessions are light hearted.  The end result is a very splendid celebration of First Holy Communion in May or June.
