School Discipline

In order to give your child the educational experiences he/she needs we have to have an orderly environment in which to work.  Children are individuals and therefore will behave in different ways.  We have to help them see that they have to follow a certain code of conduct to keep our school a safe, happy place.  We do this by:

Ø Helping our children understand, through our religious ethos, that we are asked to Love One Another and that we can make good choices which may be rewarded, or bad choices which will incur sanctions.

Ø Continuously praising good behaviour and helping pupils earn rewards.

Ø Having a whole school approach to discipline where there are rules to be followed (e.g. keeping left in the corridors, stand aside for adults, etc.)

Ø Having classroom rules (and rules for other areas around the school including the playground) with appropriate rewards and sanctions.

Ø Having Staff Training to continuously review and improve our practice.

If your child displays what we describe as “challenging behaviour” we will initially follow our school procedures to help him/her to improve.  If this doesn’t work, you will be informed and asked to support the teacher in implementing an improvement plan.

If a child’s behaviour isn’t improving by using the above processes, then outside agencies may be invited to help and to give further assessment and advice.  If this is necessary you would be informed.

If you have concerns about your child’s behaviour at home please don’t hesitate to inform us and to ask for advice.
